Just a few short months ago I found out that the firm I had worked for over the past 19 years was closing. It came as a surprise to me, as they had been in business for 50 years.

I was the only non-partner attorney there, a decision I consciously made. I’ll get into that a bit later. But the bottom line is that it left me in a very awkward position. I was a 62-year-old looking for a job.

Despite the fact that I had many loyal clients and a burgeoning practice, there were very few firms or companies interested. Age discrimination still exists people!

One thing led to another and in a very short time, it became clear that I had to make some lemonade. So I opened Cassidy Law in a mere 4 days and with virtually no interruption of service to my existing clients.

It wasn’t easy. Technology is not my forte and accounting keeps me up at night. So I started building my team to fill in my holes. My friends and family rallied behind me and together, we have built a hugely successful law firm.

I’ve learned a lot through the past few months but the biggest thing is to have faith and trust myself. Despite my hesitancy, I love my new adventure. Being my own boss is sublime and I can’t wait to see where this takes me.

Stop back from time to time for MAC’s Musings on legal topics and otherwise.

Welcome to Cassidy Law!
